Disaster! Rehearsals Are Going Strong

Rehearsals for Disaster! are underway on our mainstage.  After a week of singing with music director Vickie Krutzer and a week of dancing with choreographer Scot Baronet, the cast has hit the stage to begin blocking Act 1.  Dance numbers, scene changes, and moving set pieces fill the first act, and director Megan Wilkins is leading the charge.  We’re confident that Disaster! will be anything but a disaster.

In this sneak peek, Chad (Ben McQuillin) flirts with a female passenger (Darian Hodge) while the other passengers enjoy a performance of the Bay City Rollers’ “Saturday Night” performed by Jackie Noelle (Emily Stogner).

Tickets for this show will be on sale soon, but you can still become a member TODAY!

Our 90th Season: Disaster!

We’re excited to kick off our 90th season with the jukebox musical comedy Disaster! by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick.  Earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and the songs of the ’70s take center stage in this comedic homage to 1970s disaster films.

Disaster! takes place in 1979 Manhattan during opening night of the Barracuda, the first floating casino and discothèque in New York. The characters gather to gamble and dance, unaware of impending natural disasters, and the building’s lack of safety measures compounds these catastrophes. Notably, the casino’s structure was built on a fault line, which causes earthquakes throughout the show. The plot follows several characters’ dynamics and interactions throughout the opening night as they deal with various plot elements reminiscent of 1970s disaster cult films such as The Poseidon Adventure and Airport 1975.

The original Broadway production starred several Broadway veterans including Tony Award-winners Faith Prince (Guys and Dolls) and Roger Bart (You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown) as well as Tony award-nominees Adam Pascal (Rent), Kerry Butler (Xanadu), and Kevin Chamberlin (Dirty Blonde, Seussical, The Addams Family). Jennifer Simard was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as the gambling-addicted nun, Sister Mary Downy.

We guarantee this show will make you laugh and tap your toes. You’ll hear familiar hits like “Hot Stuff,” “Still the One,” “I Am Woman,” “Knock on Wood,” “25 or 6 to 4,” “Sky High,” and, of course, “I Will Survive.”  After all, what’s one more disaster to cap off the past year and a half?

Disaster! is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com

Casting Call: Disaster!

Calling all singers, dancers, and disco enthusiasts!
Auditions for our first show of the season, Disaster!, are set for July 10th and 11th.

Anyone interested in auditioning is asked to prepare 16 bars of either a song from the show or a song from the 70’s-80’s.  Please bring sheet music for the accompanist.
A short piece of choreography will be taught at the audition.  We want to see you having fun, so don’t sweat it!  Bring some comfy clothes and shoes, water, and a great attitude.
Finally, we will be doing cold reads from the script, so you will not need to prepare a monologue.

Music and dance auditions will take place on Saturday the 10th from 10am-12pm, and cold reads will take place on Sunday the 11th at 6pm.  If you are unable to make a date and want to audition, please call the box office and talk to Donna.  You may submit a self-taped audition with singing, dancing, and a monologue.
